Using DevOps to Improve your Delivery Pipeline

Every organization has a delivery pipeline, the only question is how efficient is your pipeline and how continuous is the flow of value through it. The goal of DevOps is to improve the collaboration across the value stream by creating a continuous delivery pipeline to accelerate time-to-market and increase the frequency and quality of deployments, using Cultural, Automation, Lean flow, Measurement, and Recovery practices and tools.

In this workshop, we will cover the competencies needed to build this pipeline. Participants will understand the practices and tools which enable continuous exploration, continuous integration, continuous deployment and release on demands. They will assess where their organization is using the SAFe DevOps health radar, and come out with pragmatic tools to try to improve dimensions of the radar at which their maturity level is low.

Agile Government Contracting

As government agencies rapidly adopt Lean-Agile practices, waterfall-centric contracting approaches have been a recurring impediment to success. Traditional incentives and performance measures have less application in a world that emphasizes fast feedback, adaptability, and a high degree of collaboration between government and industry partners. This workshop explores new ways to look at contracting that enables Lean-Agile development. We will explore the goals of Lean-Agile contracts, how the FAR and other acquisition regulations support agility, pros and cons of alternative contract types when acquiring Agile services, good patterns and anti-patterns, government authored resources for Lean-Agile contracting, and examples from actual government Lean-Agile contracts.

Portfolio Prioritization

How do we build the right things at enterprise scale? Perhaps the largest decision every enterprise faces is how to define and sequence the larger initiatives to produce the maximum economic benefit. In this workshop, attendees will bring their real-life initiatives and explore how to create Strategic Themes and Epics, how to draft an Epic Hypothesis statement, how to identify and define a Minimal Viable Product, and how to use the information to prioritize and select portfolio investments that will deliver the greatest economic benefit.

Agile Systems Engineering in SAFe

In Agile development, backlogs drive the work that teams perform. To make Systems Engineering relevant in Agile contexts, their efforts must continually influence and guide the work in those backlogs. This session shows how to put traditional Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and modeling practices into a Lean-Agile, SAFe context. We discuss a collaborative approach to requirements elicitation and system design that will simulate a Systems Engineering Workshop as part of the session. We also delve deep into the SAFe role of System Engineer/Architect and the Solution Intent construct to better understand how those roles and artifacts can effectively drive development for complex, engineered systems.

Troubleshooting SAFe Implementations

SAFe is not a trivial framework, and experience has shown that not every implementation realizes the full business benefits others successfully achieved. This workshop shows you how to use Essential SAFe as a diagnostic tool to find and address the root causes of current problems so that every business can achieve the full business benefits of its technology investment.

Prerequisites: SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) certification, SAFe Agilist (SA) certification, and/or significant SAFe implementation experience
